One of the toughest things to overcome is a rut. A rut is actually just another name for a habit that we’ve forgotten is a habit, so we call it a rut.
One rut is letting our business stagnate – no longer pushing the envelope – just sort of running on autopilot.
But the hardest rut to get out of isn’t our own; it’s the rut of other people’s perception. Our referral partners can similarly develop a fixed view of what we do, and who we do it for, and they don’t let us out.
Soon, the graphic guy becomes the logo guy, and the branded product person just has pens and mugs, and so on.
Breaking out of the rut of our PARTNERS’ perceptions is crucial if we’re going to get the referrals we want.
So let’s push the envelope, not just with ourselves, but let’s throw our referral partners for a loop now and then.
Let’s continually surprise each other with at least one thing we do that the rest of us probably don’t realize we do.
An easy way to do that is tell a different story, give a different example, or highlight a different service or product offering.
You might be surprised to find out Pierre does customized product packaging, and Whitney sets up customer experiences for your clients.
Let’s let people into our the fun-park of what we do and, as always, win more business.
